Little steps can make a big impact

Each year, approximately 60,000 babies and young patients under the age of 18 receive care at Gold Coast University Hospital and Robina Hospital. For many of these children, hospital stays can be long, challenging, and overwhelming.

The Gold Coast Hospital Foundation is working at enhancing a space within the Children’s Inpatient Unit, creating a dedicated day program environment for young people with complex needs who require intensive support in a structured setting.
Designed for patients spending the full day in care, this space will offer a more comfortable and engaging alternative to clinical surroundings. With the addition of soft furnishings, therapy mats, and flexible seating options, it will support group work, relaxation, and daily activities.
The aim is to create a welcoming, age-appropriate space where young people can feel at ease, stay connected, and participate in their care in a way that better supports their wellbeing.

By investing in a more child-friendly and engaging hospital environment, the GCHF aims to improve the experience of the many children who spend extended periods in hospital each year, as well as the thousands of children who visit loved ones across the hospital.
